Event: Opening of new Long Path trail section in the Catskills on Saturday, June 7, 2014 | National Trails Day Event | Catskill Mountains, New York

On Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 11:00am - 2:00pm the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and their partners will be celebrating the the culmination of over three years of hard work with the opening the newest section of the Long Path in the Catskills on National Trails Day.  This new 9.5 mile backcountry trail section connects the Village of Phoenicia with the Burroughs Range Trail in the Slide Mountain Wilderness (in addition to being part of the Long Path, this trail represents an extension of the Phoenicia-East Branch Trail, finally providing a direct connection to the Village of Phoenicia for the trail network).  According to the Trail Conference, over a hundred volunteers have spent thousands of hours building this trail, which travels over three mountain peaks including Romer Mountain, Mount Pleasant and Cross Mountain, past several scenic vistas and features some amazing examples of trail building work done by volunteer trail crews in the Catskill Park.
