Discussion: Beating the heat while hiking

Considering this stretch of hot and dry summer weather that we have been having almost nationwide, we asked what your favorite way to stay cool was on Twitter.  There were some great ideas already and we want you to keep them coming - either on Twitter (@Outdradventures) or here in our comment section.  It is always interesting to discover a new trick or two!

Tips to Beat the Heat While Hiking
  • We wear cooling neck wraps when we hike in the heat (@HBNatureStudy)
  • Water soaked hats or bandanas (@WalkSimply)
  • Frozen water bottles or ice in your hydration bladder. Helps me in the heat (@AdventureTykes)
  • Climb to where it's cold, like Mount Washington where it's 38 degrees! (@NewEnglnOutside)
  • Hike through the night and sleep during the day. Or start early enough to be done before the heat of the day. (@HikingTheTrail)
  • Only do hikes with waterfalls, swimming holes, and stream crossings!  (SDizzy)
