News: Essex Chain Lakes to be first in eventual purchase of 69,000 acres for Adirondack Park Forest Preserve in New York
The Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is planning on purchasing the Essex Chain Lakes as the first part of what will eventually be the purchase of 69,000 acres of former Finch, Pruyn and Co. land in the central Adirondacks.
These lands would become part of the Adirondack Park Forest Preserve and remain forever wild. Reasons given for the purchase of the Chain Lakes first include the potential public use of the parcel and the ability to open that parcel up to hiking and boating and other outdoor recreational activities as soon as possible.
