News: 2012 Hunting Season's Gun Season Opens in Southern New York
Hikers beware, the gun portion of hunting season has opened in southern New York. That includes the Hudson Valley and the Catskill Mountain region. Gun season runs from November 17th through December 9th. That's followed by bow season from December 10th through the 18th. For Westchester and Suffolk Counties, bow hunting is only allowed and that season runs from October 1st through the 31st of December.
All hikers should take common sense precautions, including always wearing blaze orange clothing when hiking. In addition, make sure your dogs are also wearing blaze orange to protect them too!
