Hiking: The Beehive Trail - Tackling one of Acadia National Park's scariest hiking trails
The Beehive Trail in Acadia National Park is one of the park’s most popular and thrilling hikes, offering an heart-pumping experience for hikers. Located near the Sand Beach area, this 1.5-mile loop trail is famous for its steep, rocky ascent and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding landscapes. The trail features exposed cliffs, iron rungs, and narrow ledges, making it a challenging climb. Hikers should be prepared for a difficult hike, as the Beehive Trail requires both physical fitness and a head for heights.

Important Hiking Considerations:
The Beehive summit offers stunning vistas of Sand Beach, Great Head, and the vast coastline of Maine. Standing at 520 feet, the peak isn't the highest in Acadia National Park, but it provides a panoramic view that captivates hikers and photographers alike. Along the trail, you’ll also be surrounded by Acadia’s signature granite cliffs, lush forests, and the cool ocean breeze, creating a uniquely scenic hiking experience that’s difficult to match.
